Keith Pfannenstiel directs engineering team at Brown Industries, LLC

LAWRENCE, Kan. - March 29, 2010 - Keith Pfannenstiel of Baldwin City, Kan., has joined Brown Industries, LLC, as director of engineering. Experienced in rubber-tired vehicle design, Pfannenstiel provides leadership for Brown's engineering team, which offers design support for the manufacturer's two divisions: Brown Cargo Van and Brown Specialty Vehicles. Both are located in Lawrence.

Pfannenstiel and Brown's engineering team are currently working on product designs for a number of regional municipalities. The projects include a Mobile Booking Unit for the sheriff's department of Nashville/Davidson County, Tenn., a Mobile Medical Unit for St. Louis, Mo., an all-aluminum Post-Blast Investigation Unit for the City of Lawrence, as well as Mobile Offices and a Mobile Command Center for the Denver (Colo.) Water Department.

"Many of the products he has developed over 30-plus years are in service in numerous cities throughout the United States. With Keith on our team, we have the capability to provide our customers with a much broader scope of solutions to their product needs."

Using his mechanical engineering expertise, Pfannenstiel has overseen and engineered projects in the design, testing and development of vehicles for the transportation industry. He has designed transit and shuttle buses, trailer handling terminal trucks, truck bodies, ambulances, specialty vehicles as well as construction and industrial equipment.

From 2006 to 2009 Pfannenstiel was director of engineering at Kalmar Industries Corporation in Ottawa. In Wichita from 1997 to 2006, he was director of engineering and new product development at Optima Bus Corporation (formerly Chance Coach, Inc.) and from 1991 to 1997 was new product development project engineer at Chance Operations, Inc. 

Pfannenstiel received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1973 and a mini-MBA in 1998 at Wichita (Kan.) State University. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Kansas and a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Kansas Society of Professional Engineers.

Brown Cargo Van and Brown Specialty Vehicles are subsidiaries of Brown Industries, LLC. The business in Lawrence, Kan., manufactures custom cargo van bodies and trailers. Founded in 1946, Brown built the first aluminum dry freight cargo van body, now the industry standard.
